I've had experience with BOTH Gaffrigs. Mike L. has his company in Grayslake IL and went out of his way to be of assistance be it a couple of bezels or a $1000 dollars of items. I've gone there (Livorsi) during my lunch break to pick stuff up a couple of times. Mike Schultz at Gaffrig Performance is also great. GP is in Elk Grove, IL but I've never been to their place. I bought my throttles from Mike because my wife bought my red bezels from them several years ago and their red is more of a metal flake red than the Livorsi red which looks more like red anodize (it is powder coat though). Anyway, the throttle/shifter from Gaffrig (Elk Grove-Mike Schultz) is fantastic and at leat the quality of my original white Gaffrig by Livorsi OEM unit. I like both places and won't listen to any legal razmataz.

My understanding of the situation is that Mike Livorsi purchased the rights to manufacture "Gaffrig" Speedo's & Tachs. While Mike Schultz was manufacturing outher proudcts. The crap starts with Livorsi now manufacturing other gauges, the Schultz camp feels this is a breech of contract, so they start manufacturing all of there own gauges, and a court battle insues.

Bottom line we the consumer loose on this one.

Default Gaffrig or Gaffrig!!

Hey Boy's....

I did'nt mean to start any trouble !!!

I think the whole Gaffrig thing was covered in March & May 2002 Powerboat Mag. The March issue covered the Schultz camp & the May had a letter of reply from Livorsi.

You guy's are not making this easy !!!!!

Anyway, check your 2002 issues........

Had a great weekend in Havasu...........

try these...they rock...

Dave...sorry, I didn't know "Gaffrig by Schultz" was the real deal...

I've never used Gaffrig gauges by Mike Shultz because I never really liked the look of them and went to Livorsi. I was surprised by their customer service when I sent them a speedo which I got used from a friend. They fixed a spot of rust on the bezel and sent it back to me...all free of charge! And I was just some schmoe off the street...

I was sold and still buy just about everything from them.

My "everyone" statement was made because I feel that Livorsi has gained such brand identity and market share in the preformance boat industry that I assumed "everyone" was using his gauges. Gaffrigs are about as common as Fountains So much so that in order to be different, I purcahsed AutoMeter Ultra Lites for my Cafe Racer. And that's certainly no reflection on the quality and service at Livorsi...in fact, I've purchased all new bezels and even valve covers from Mike and crew.

That being said, opinions are like a$$holes...

Gaffrig was quite a guy, I miss the hell out of him. We went to Lane Tech together in Chicago. We were best friends though most of high school and for many many years after, but did drift apart a bit as we got older. We were good friends until he died. We ran our first offshore race together in 1967 in my dad's boat. Cracked it right down the keel. Street raced together, partied together and almost got arrested together any number of times. cannot tell you how handy him being a Chicago cop was.

He was tenacious and creative. Built the business from SCRATCH.

I can't remember if the first product was the speedo's or the mufflers, but the mufflers were invented out of necessity so we could run my old Cig in Ft Lauderdale without going to jail (badge or not).

The Livorsi / Shultz conflict is unfortunate, they are both great guys.

Greg from Gorilla powder coating in Crestwood, IL does the powder coating for Schultz. He use to do Livorsi's till a few years ago.

Thanks Candyman,

I'm fabricating custom diamond plates for installation between the stringers in my Fountain. Now I can get the exact match to my bezels.

Regards,
