Default replacement windshield???

any ideas how one can reinforce the holes taht have to be drill in eth plexi so they won;t eventually crack?

i know pretty mcuh whenever you put a hole in plexi it prety much just create a place fora large crack to form. Is there any material i can have my windshield made from that is mbetter than plexi?

Puder. Try some Lexan. Depending on how large the sections are you can pick it up (sometimes) at the local HomeDepot or Lowes.

its much larger than anything home depot sells, plus it has about a 120* curve in it.

You probably should run a piece of ss or aluminum trim 1-2" wide around the inside and outside of the plexiglass so that it is sandwiched between the metal where it meets the deck. This will give it some support and minimize the vibration. Ideally you would drill through the metal and plexi sandwich so that you could anchor the windshield with brackets (on the inside). The plexiglass will not hold up if the mounting screws are just threaded up into it. they will either strip the weak plastic or crack the windshield as you correctly fear.

I just put a new windshield made out of white plexi on mine and i used rubber grommets through the holes it acts as a dampening pad for the window.

If your window needs a bend you will probably have to go to the manufacturer, call around and go direct, I saved $400 bucks on mine doing it that way.

Good Luck.

You should be able to go to a plastics place locally and have them make what you need. I checked into this locally here, and they said they could pretty much make anything I wanted out of acrylic or lexan. Depending on the thickness of the panel, it can be "cold bent" or if needed, and they have an oven, they can heat and bend it to form.

Hey Griff can you shed some light on what the process is "Cold Bent", just currious.

Only know what they told me. They said they can bend acrylic without heating it in an oven. They said they have to overbend it about 10% as it wants to spring back some. I'm not sure exactly how they do it. They may apply some heat to get it more flexible at the bend.

Puder,

Ren3 offers up a good idea. If that's not possible, try a sleeved fitting like Krumbsnatcher suggests with a rubber grommet. That's exactly how my mine is rigged. In addition to a rubber "grommet", the receiving "bolt" has an extended sleeve which fits inside the hole in the lexan/plexi to accept the screw side with threads. It reinforces the entire fitting assembly. Pic of the decorative bolt and sleeve/nut should appear below.

These were originally found on my Scarab windshield and are hard to find now. At least the pict might give you an idea to find something similar.
