Nevr heard of them, but it seems to me that the oil would be more easily effected by a small amount of water intrusion than grease would.

I spoke to one of the Owens brothers of Owen and Sons Trailers. He doesn't like them. He said if they get a crack or somehow lose the oil in them, you are done. Whereas, if it is a grease bearing, even if you lose the buddy bearing, you are running with a greased bearing. You can go quite a way with no buddy bearing.

I've had to deal with them on a couple of trailers: the concept is nice, but the reality is, that they can, and do occasionally leak their lube out(usually cracked or loose plastic bearing cap). I personally prefer the safety factor of the greased hubs.

I have used them on many trailers. Give me grease anytime. As stated above, there is no margin for error. A loose or cracked cap, bye bye oil and bearings.

FWIW, I switched all my boat trailers to Amsoil grease after experimenting with it on one of em. Runs cooler than anything I have ever used. just put 4000 70+ mph miles on a brand new boat trailer using it, and the hubs are still tight on the axles shafts..
