My boat requires premium fuel. I keep a few bottles of the 104+ octane booster on board (the black ones), just in case I have to fill up with 89 octane. My boat stays on a trailer, and I try to avoid doing this but, in a pinch it has worked. My engine will "ping" under full load with 89 but with the booster added it seems fine. I guess that each engine combination will be different.

I have a ProCharger on my 1998 Prowler with the 502/415. It will run on 89 without a problem. I will use 104 at times, but at 300 hours, so far things have been good

104+ is the only one with an octane rating guarantee

I've tried the black and the red, no difference, the red is cheaper, about 7 bucks for 20 gallons.

blowme can you tell me about your procharger set up? what model is the charger (m1, m3) . did you have to modify your drive ? did you do any upgrades to the engine ( head gaskets etc.) what prop are you using and what speeds ? please pm me i'm really serious about this upgrade to my 1998 26 sonic and would like to hear from someone that had it done on the same boat. have you had ant mech. problems and did you do the install ?

You want to read a little on octane boosters. Most are common chemicals that can be bought much cheaper. Check it out.

Oh I am not a big fan of octane boosters but they will work in a pinch.

I think procharger offers an 89 octane kit. Not sure as its been a while though.

Dont go the booster way it's not worth all the hassle. There are other ways. But more money. 540 x 3.3l whipple x 3 lbs boost = 750-800 hp on 89 octane also = 25K +-
