Default Prop Question

I have a New 17" Mirage Plus prop. I need to get this prop re-worked if I plan on bieing able to have any use for it...How much can a SS prop be worked up in pitch? Actually the main thing is that the prop has a VERY large diameter. I think if the diameter could be cut down and a inch or two added I could use the thing. Can the diameter be taken down? If the thing can't be worked for me then I'll have to sell it. I just hate to "give" the damn thing away.
