So true. I screwed around the better part of 1 summer trying different configs to get my complete stock setup water pressure down. I was pegging my gauge at 35psi at cruise speeds, so limited myself to no more than 3000 rpm for a few months. Saved tons of gas though! I would lift the hatch a bit and see the large hose from the pump to the stat housing swell up tremendiously. Only time before something gives. Finally broke down and bought 2 valves. Instant cure!

I'm right at 20psi now at WOT.

The killer of this is that those valves were only $100 a few yrs ago. A little out of line to fix a design flaw from Merc, IMO.

Point taken!
It used to be $100, did plastic shoot up in price? I am just wondering why it is so much.. and what else is available? Merc is the one that sets the price. It would be interesting to know how much it costs to make..

I thought they were a little pricey, but they do work. Water exit through transom.

Plastic did go up in price recently...atleast ours did here for our injection molding parts......I'd love to see one of them taken appart to see how its set up inside.....i actually made one of my own a few years back and tested it on a buddys boat...and it worked decient enough....it just looked a bit funny for most people considering it was made from a modified water spigot! Nice thing was it was adjustable
