Intercooler plumbing ques
Currently installing a superchiller to an 800sc. can the Merc c-pump push enough water to both the engine and the intercooler? The water to the intercooler is being supplied right from the crossover. How is water Controlled between the intercooler and the motor for best cooling??
And, what is the best way to control flow from high rpm to idle? I see some places sell spring controlled pressure reducing valves, but all the do is lower the pressure and restrict flow? Is there a way without having to get a dual output waterpump?

I run a chiller and a Whipplecharger.
Here are my recommendations: First why take away water from cooling the engine?? Get yourself an offshore water pickup and a sea strainer and run them to the intercooler only.
Second-- You don't need water running thru the chiller at low speeds. If you do it will cause the fuel to turn back into a liquid & it will not idle. You only need to cool the air after you are up on plane. I have installed this system on several boats and it works very well. As your speed increases so does the water flow in proportion to the increased load.

Since there are 2 ports in and 2 out , should I only use 1 in and 1 out? seems like that in enough water. what do you think?

the one I was talking about, if that is my comment you are refering to, is sold by cp performance. It is a spring operated pressure relief.

I'm running Eikert 3-stage water pumps on a pr. of 1100hp, PSI supercharged motors. I changed the pickups, at the transom, to 1.5" instead of the usual 1.25" and am running the 1st stage thru the left side of the motor, the 2nd. stage thru the right side and the 3rd. stage thru the innercooler
I have absolutely no trouble getting the motors to idle down to 500-600rpm, in gear, with water running thru the innercooler at idle.
The motors are responsive from idle thru redline.
It is my opinion that you do not need a separate pickup for the innercooler, if you plumb the system, as I have done.
It will work either way.

BUDAH. I see your point. The way I described is exactly how Keith Eikert suggested that I plumb my blower motors.
It works for me, with a lot less plumbing. The initial cost is high on the 3 stage pumps, but you only need 2 pickups at the transom and 2 sea strainers.
