Bravo stuck in forward
I just read the Bravo stuck in Reverse thread and I have a very similar problem.
Yesterday after launching one time one engine reved way up. I don't know if I didn't get out of the thottles. or got back in the to soon or just wat happened all of a sudden it was screeming and I thought I had blown dirve. I slowed the engine up and the prop hooked back up. 5 mile later when we pulled inside a break wall the drive wouldn't go into nutral or reverse. The linkage block on the transome seems to be fine. I tied wiggling the prop while someone else moved the shifter. No luck.
I was told to try a 2x4 on the prop to spin it while someone moves the shifter.
Or should I pull the back capp off and look at the internal linkage.
I was able to wiggle the shifter enough to let it start in gear and drove it the 15 miles home with no trouble.
Thanks
Mark

My experience with this problem has always been the shifter linkage behind the back cap. If the cables are good and moving freely back to the transom, then pull your back cap and I'm sure you'll find your problem there.
Good luck....

Payton,
It is possible that you engaged the cone clutch into the gear permamently or pushed a floor out of the gear. If you cant finesse it back into neutral, then I would pull the back cap and see if you can't help the shift fork move the clutch out of the gear. The drive should be rotating while doing this. Be careful how you make that happen. It is easier to just pull the drive and twist the input shaft while moving the shift linkage under the cap.
If you would like to talk about it or want to have someone look at it.. Give me a call. I have all the tools to rebuild Bravo drives and do blueprinting for gear set up. I have access to steel tower installs also. Give me a call if you would like some help. Kaama said he talked you about me.
Thanks

The problem was the clutch cone had welded to the gear. A guy across the street from the boat had the gear and cone update kit and will have the drive ready for me in a couple of days.
I had a new shifter cable put in this drive a month ago. When this was done the mechanic put Merc hi perf lube in the drive and took out the amzoil I had in there. The other drive that has the Amzoil still in it is fine. So far.
Could it be the oil? This Mechanic says the Merc stuff is the best thing to run in it.
Can I expect to do the same repair to the other drive at some point?
They are 1991's I understand that in the update kit the cone matches the gear better than the original ones.
