Lowerunit nose cone question
I've got a 1985 21' Scarab with a 350 sbc and an alpha I drive. I bought the boat about two months ago and I've been going through the drive and motor getting everyting ready for the spring. It's got an aftermarket nose cone on the lowerunit that is starting to crack around where the previous owner epoxied it on. So I pulled off the drive to get better access to the nose cone so I could fix the crack and repaint the drive. After the I pulled the drive off and stated to look closely at the nose cone, I noticed a small 1/8" hole in the side of the nose cone, about 1" from the very front. Is that hole there for a cooling water pickup? Should I epoxy over the hole? Anyone know what that single hole in the cone is there for?

That hole is on the driver side right? It could be a drain for the cooling passages in the front of the drive. You can epoxy over it or just leave it open, Its your decision. I just put one on mine this fall. Hydromotive said to leave it open or epoxy it up. Myself, I didn't bother because my drive comes off during the winter. I guess if its covered the front of the lower unit doesn't drain so it might freeze during the winter.
