Post Crankshafts?

Building in my book a mild 496 tall deck blower motor. Looking for a reasonably priced 4.25” stroke internally balanced crank. What are the experienced opinions on Scat or Eagle brand cranks to hold up under 700 to 800 HP. I will be on the low end of this but would like it to be dependable without paying more than I have to for that dependability. I know some will say run don’t walk and go buy a Cola, Callies or (?) but if I can save 5 to 7 hundred why not. There is a lot of good experience along with opinions on the board and I am really looking for any experiences with Scat or Eagle cranks, good or bad. Thanks

If you buy the Eagle or Scat be sure to get the 4340 and plan on machining the journals, and indexing the stroke. The overall cost is still cheaper, the cost difference is just less. Have the assembly balanced yourself, don't buy a balanced piece. My personal opinion for a blower engine you should select a Callies or similar $1,300 crank. You do get what you pay for.

Those pieces are made in China.
I have talked with engine builders and they have told me of several stories of Eagle cranks snapping in half.

I also suggest Callies, Lunati or Crawler.

SCAT is the starting word in SCATTER! Not a good description for what happened to your engine.

Aw, get a pair of timed out PT-6 turbines. The exhaust makes a great hairdryer too.

I run an Eagle , but just like Bruce say's , be prepared to do some machine work to it to make it right.
If you plan on making 800 though I would definitly step up. $1300 for a crank vs. $1500 for a whole rotating assy seems like alot now but when you are looking at the remains of the less expensive rotating assy lying in the bilge you will then wish you would have spent the extra dough.
