Default 540 Cooling

To all you 540 owners out there and anyone else of course, may I ask what size oil coolers you are running?
Is anyone using a crossover instead of a recirculating pump?
What size T-stat and have you drilled any holes in it?
As always, thanks for any replies.

I have been running 540s N/a 9.5 to one
merlin heads, single plane merlin intakes, dominators
Crossover tubes, water jacketed headers no tstats
raw water cooled
the oil coolers are a old gil savage 5'' x 12 inch
similar to a hardin marine.

100 degree water temp
220 oil temp

Before the single planes. I had dual planes with t-stats
160degree
had to drill two eighth inch holes to get the temp
to stay steady at around 120.

never dynoed.
I would assume from some of the dyno sheets I have seen
I would say conservably speeking 580 to 600hp

That combo was:
540 bowtie tall decks
Bryant racing cranks 4.250
4.5 bore
Ross 9.5 to one forged pistons
139741 crane hydraulic roller cam
Merlin cast iron full ported heads
merlin single plane intakes
4500 dominator

Cord,
What kind of T-Stat? Oil or water?
What power are you running? 540?
It's normal to get off track on these threads. No big deal.
Thanks for the feedback.
Where's JimV, Kaama and Monty?

Yea, it's a 540. Dynoed at 580hp with 100 degree temps in the dyno room. I'm using the perma-cool oil thermostat. I had the lines reversed at first and never saw oil temps until I ran the boat hard. Then they would climb and fall off immediatly. With the lines reversed so the thermostat was working the temps now rise quickly and are very stable.

I'm using a stock merc water thermostat. 140 degrees? Because I'm not using the stock circ pump, I never see any engine temp unless the water is real warm. Then I'm seeing what I assume to be 140 degrees.
