Figured I'd unearth his thread as Waterboy was looking for some ideas on upgrading a 330hp 454 a week or so ago. Anyone got any fresh new ideas?

pick mine up this week, all i kept was the block and hydraulic rollers, went with a 625.00 496 kit, cast crank from rpm, 5130 i beam rods kb 10-1 hypers, reman 088 rectangles for 650.00 off of ebay, a 140.00 510 510 224 232 112 lc comp roller off of ebay, 1.8 roller rockers to bump up the cam a little, from ohio crank for 100.00 new they had an inventory blow out sale, spent 400.00 for a performer rpm and 800 holley like new from racing junk.com, and should have a 500 plus bullet for very cheap, the whole thing is do your research, pick your combo and then shop for best deal, I will have less than four gs in this with machine work, short block assembly, gaskets, new balancer, oil pump, timing chain, water pump, the whole ball of wax.

i'm getting ready to assemble mine next month
its the generic 1988 330 hp 454 ,
heads are getting tossed for 049 large oval gm heads , stock valve size, fresh out the machine shop ($385.00)
intake is a 454-0 hi rise single plane ($125.00)
750 holley dual feed single pumper that is marine ($125.00)
i really stole the exhaust , older set of rewarder headers , not water injected , but real water jacketed style , headers / risers and bravo 1 tail pipes with the water exiting at the end of the exhaust tip ($500.00)
set of hp500 valve covers ($150.00)
another 200 bucks for all the gaskets and misc junk
i hope to see 70-80 hp , and running the same 4800 r's
that my old motor put out ,
after i get a baseline with my mirage plus 23 pitch i'll start shopping for a prop to compliment the power
