Do I have to order this 101 lube from Merc, or is it an auto parts stock item?

I think Boat Us or West Marine may have it since they sell some merc stuff now. A merc dealer probably has it on the shelf. You can also use OMC tripleguard if someone has it.Never use Neverseize.It will weld your cover nut in place and may ruin the threads. Paint will look awesome too.

Yes the 101 is good for cover nut threads and steering cables. Use merc's 2-4-C w/ teflon on studs, bolts, and propshaft. Loc-tite the seals, pinion nut, shift linkage bolts and input yoke threads. Use merc's spline grease on the coupler splines. Use merc's gimbal bearing grease to grease the gimbal's grease fittings.
