You got 3 choices:
Straight weight 30wt or 40 wt conventional oil.
Merc 15/40 conventional oil.
Any full synthetic 5w-40 oil.
Don't use a conventional multi-vis oil.
Which is best? Whichever one you change out most often. That's the one that is the best.

I use mobile1 15-50. but I'm sure there is better. Any kind of oil is better than no oil. If I was boating in the south, for long periods, I would probably use a straight wieght oil because of the hot temps. Where we are at, the water temp is only 60 degree when we start boating in the spring and the heavy oil is not the best in this enviroment so the multi-vis seems to be the better.

synthetic 15w-50 is not multi vis. It is an equivalency relation. 15w-50 M1 flows like SAE15 at low temps and like SAE50 at high temps. It doesn't contain different stocks with different makeups like conventional multi vis.
synthetics are great, but will get contaminated just as fast as any cheap oil. and there is no better oil than fresh oil.
if you got the $ use synth and change it often.
if you don't have the $ then use conventionals and change them often. Don't use synth and leave it in there forever - it doesn't work like that.
