I went with the baldwin B1441 for my 454s. Picked that because of the excellent rating given in that review and because it has a pressure bypass valve integral. Used to use the PF1218.

I'm pretty sure the NAPA 1060 is to long for the 502
mag.

Too long? I am running it on my 2000 Sunsation with a 502 MPI. the Wix 51060 and the Napa are the same filter, I believe.

Long filters are preferable due to their increased filtering surfaces. Be sure and get the HP versions that have the anti-syphon capability so the filter doesn't drain while sitting, creating a dry filter start.

Be aware --- The Mobil 1 M1-302 and many other of the tall filters listed here WILL NOT fit the 454 and 502 Magnums from the mid-late 90s that have the remote filter mounted to the exhaust manifold. There is not enough room between the manifold and the filter to fit these taller filters. Mercury flipped it over in the late 90s allowing umlimited room.

It's good Merc came to their senses as larger filters are much better on these tests and others. Why pay all that money for a "remote location" and put it into an obstructed location? That's like paying for front row seats and getting them with a wall in front of you. No common sense.
