I have had several problems with my HP500EFI since new, most of it caused by incompetent mechanics. So am fixing my most recent problem myself (cracked head).
Here are my first question:
I just got a pair of used HP500 Carb heads, the casting number (14097088) is the same but there is another stamping on the heads, my old ones say "GM 3", the used ones I got say "GM 2". what's that mean?
Second question:
I needed to replace one roller rocker, again I have a used one, looks the same (Crane, 13-1.70), but again there is another stamping that is different than my original one, below the 13-1.70 stamping there is another stamping, my original has "# -11", the replacement has "* -07", what that mean?
Third question:
Where's the best place to get gaskets, are there anything better than the stock Merc gasket set (Part number 27-842129A)?
Final question:
I want to replace the head and rocker bolts/studs, does anyone have the part number for ARP high grade replacements and a good place to get them (Summit Racing?)?
Any input is helpful, trying to get everything together so I can get it running right this time.

http://www.mortec.com
Check your casting # on this site, maybe of some help.
You can send your Rocker arms back to Crane & have them rebuilt, Teague has them on sale for around $239-00 a set. I have a used set laying around, can check my set for #'s if that will help.
Also you could call Crane tech line they give the info you need.
Gaskets, Cometic have a good rep $$$$, I use Felpro gaskets head & intake. Just be careful of the intake gaskets, make sure they fit your ports & water passages 100% or you will get a milk shake.
Head bolts from Summit /Jegs.
I studded my block (99 HP 500carb) and the nuts on the studs protrude higher than bolts...CMI headers need to be cut to accomodate the higher nut height.
Do a search on all the above as much of this has been discussed several times
Good luck John

Just checked Mortec, the casting number is correct, I assume that the GM 2and GM3 are supplier or manufacturing codes.
I suspect that is the same with the Crane roller rockers also, but I will call Crane and check.
Thanks again.
