Default 496 HO Exhaust Plate

Jim at Arizona Speed and Marine suggested that I take a plate out of my stock exhaust on my 496 HO so the exhaust is less restrictive. The plate is apparently located between the manifold and the riser.
Has anyone done this or is anyone familiar with this plate?

Bajavet,

mine is removed on my whippled 496 ho. It was taken out when whipple installed the blower. Suposedly the plate is there to catch condensation when it runs down the risers and then it collectes and evaporates. I just took my risers off to get them polished (do this they look great and its cheap) and inspected everything and cannot detemine any detriment from removing them.

I have seen the plate you are talking about when I had the risers off of one of my engines. It does look like it is restrictive and I thought of taking them out but ended up keeping them in because I wasn't really sure what effect it would have. I was more concerned about torque. On a blower motor I can understand why you would want to remove them but on a mild NA motor I wonder if removing them would have an effect on torque? I guess the only way to tell is to test it.

Kokopelli

Apparently Dustin must think there is some advantage to removing the plates. Who polished the risers for you. Do you have any pictures?

I just had a local metal finishing shop do them for me - cost $35 each. I don't have any pix but they look just like a brand new pair of IMCO risers. The guy who polished them said they were very high quality stainless and easy to polish.

daveb,
I have not had a chance to remove the plates yet? I'm still debating wether I want to or not.

Interesting. I await results from anyone who has tried the removal. What gains/detriment if any?
