Towing about 9600 lbs. Need your advice!

hi, buy a crew cab daulley, brakes are better,lots of room inside, and if you buy a chevy with a duramax diesel and a allison auto trans ,, you will get 18 mpg and ride like a cadillac and still be able to pull a house down,ok so i own one and just love it,, but ive towed boats for the last 20 years all over the country andthis truck puts all my other trucks to shame(chevy and fords, daulley and non-daulleys, gas and deisels)it just rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you are going to be in excess of 11,000 lbs. loaded up, you will be surprised on this. If you want anything other than a white knuckle driving experience, Blown1100 & USAFOUNTAIN are right, you really need more wheelbase and a one ton. Crew cab HD & SD's are extremely comfortable if you're not a sissy and they have the good engines; the PSD or the 8.1 gasser for example. I agonized over the purchase of one of these "redneck pigs", but now its all I would ever have....even if I didnt have a boat. Good Luck

I think if you want to solve your problem is wait just a little while and gmc is coming out with the yukon xl with the duramax in it. I think that towing capcity is 12000.

Don't confuse GVW with tow capacity! I have a 1500 sub 4x4 2000 Rated @ 7800 3.73 8800 4.10 towing
I tow 5 hrs with 8000. I can do it . But the 2500 sub with the 6 ltr would be alot better. I also use load bars with sway. Good luck in your quest 2500 4x4 with 6.0 8100 3.73 10100 4.10

I do not know how soon you are looking to make a decesion but if you can wait a month i will have some more info for you. I am picking up my 37 active thunder that should weigh out at about 11k pounds. I am towing from Fla to NJ, about 20 plus hours with a Ford Excursion with the power stroke deisel. So far this truck has been great as my everyday driver. I will be setting my trailer up with disc brakes for that extra help stopping. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for the advice, I been doing it now for quite a few years. I tow a 40 gooseneck with full living quarters and a 66 Chevelle Super Gas car in Division 7. Loaded with tools spares etc. etc. It weighs in at about 18,000 lbs. Now if I could just find a way for the trailer tires to last. I own 3 duallies a 94 GMC I put a 502 in it. A 2000 GMC with the 454 Vortec and I just picked up a 2001 Chevy with the 496. Needless to say I recommend a heavy duty truck for all towing chores.

I have a Ford Expedition (97) with the 5.4 Triton. I tow a 28 Apache Brave with a triple axle trailer. A little over 8,000lbs. Longest tow was from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta (12 hours). Did fine, ran 60-65 until I hit the hills, then struggled for more power. Semi's are a problem and seem to have no mercy for someone towing a boat. I would definately opt for a bigger motor, and wheelbase. Diesel over gas, you will have better pulling power, more fuel efficient, and it will last twice as long, but twice the price. Although I have had zero problems with the Expedition, my next move will be Powerstroke or Cummins for easier towing....

Here is what I did........(you Ford guys don't kill me).
2002 Suburban XL 2500 8.1L (496) 4:10 rear
4X4 with locker rear end. The damn thing is 218in long! Auto level air over, every cooler known to man (inside and out) The larger tires and heaver side walls (thank Blueman) and skid plates. GM says on the window sticker she is good to TOW 12,000 LBS as rigged. Wight with light grey leather.
I pick it up Friday.
See what happens when see gives me the check book for even a second!
