S&B, Go to the junkyard and find stock rims. Get the the 4.10's and buy a set of tires that will just clear the fenders. Use a tire/gear/rpm calculator to determine what tires will give you the desired RPM for kid hauling. This is really your best solution. Just swap em if you are towing a distance.
http://www.4lo.com/ Fill in 4 out of 5 parameters. Use 1 to 1 for T-case and Tranny.
A 30" tire with 3.73 will give the same RPM as 4.10 with 33". You do the Carter conversion for Metric tires.

I do not know what cab configuration you have of if it is 2 or 4 wheel drive but you relize that that package is probably only rated to pull in the 8000 lb range acording to the GMC website.

Go with the 4.10 Axle.
The rating IS IMPORTANT, 12000 lbs. for insurance/liability. If you have an accident they may declare you at fault (even if your not).
The mileage around town on my Avalanche is about 11.4.
Hi-way 12-13
Towing about 10 (5000 lb trailer).
The extra securtiy is so much better. The extra gas mileage on the 3.73 is nil. The 8.1 just drinks fuel period.
But, it does not sound like a diesel or smell like one.

Thanks for all the input - I went with the Burban with the 8.1 litre and the 3:73. Pulled the boat for about 15 miles or so today and what a great ride! The 8.1 has all the pull power that I need - got the boat up to 60 mph in no time at all! I pulled up a hill that used to slow me down with my 31' and didn't even have to down shift to get up it. Thanks again for all the input - it really helped.
