I have an '85 357 Formula with TRS drives running around 540 hp per engine with blown 454s.
I toasted the right outdrive a while back and had Doller Offshore rebuild it. Once it was replaced realized the tranny was bad. The Marina is telling me now that the tranny needs about $1400 worth of hard parts and it may be almost as cheap to buy a new tranny. It broker the final drive gear. Here's what they say I need in hard parts: Final drive gear and plus. Both key ways, both woodruf, forward clutch hub, sealing rings, needle bearing, tranny pump assembly and gasket/seal kit.
I checked and can get an 8 plate rebuilt tranny from Donner Offshore for $1800. That would seem like the better option.
Any opinions? I need to do something today.
The tranny is a 72C series 10-05-065-901 for TRS.
