Default Dirty drive oil, what does it mean??

1990 Bravo 1s. 1 is fine, the other is very dirty. When I drained them I drained through a paint strainer. Neither drive had any pieces, nor anything on the plug magnets except some dust.

What would cause the dirty oil? I am pushing about 650hp in each motor. I have drive showers.

If a rebuild is needed what is the best way to go?

gotta be more specific than "dirty".

color?
sparkly suspension?
caramel streaks?

give us something to go on here.

Dirty as in black, with slight sparkly suspension. Oil is changed about 50 hrs.

For $12, get it analyzed. www.analaboratories.com. No affiliation, just happy customer. Other places are http://oilguard.com/oil_analysis_prog.php, or www.blackstone-labs.com.

Sounds like it might be clutch getting ready to let go. I had similar finding in one drive only, but I had big time metal shavings in mine. Found a twisted prop shaft and vertical shaft in the lower. Have replaced upper and lower with Max Machine Worx, but have not disassembled the spent upper yet to see exactly what the problem was (besides the 950 H.P. and heavy throttle hand of the previous owner!).
