I test drove a boat the otherday, After the Bravo 3 drives were warmed up after a short cruise I had a very hard time shifting into foward, reverse was a little easier. When they were cooler they shifted easier. What would this indicate?

Seems to me like it sould be a shifter fork cone problem and likely not shift cables. Any Ideas?

Take the rear cover off check that there is grease on the detent assembly.Sometime if it is dry it shifts hard.

I just went through the same thing, only with a standard Bravo. But it wouldn't shift at all...

First, I replaced the shifter cable going through the transom - that wasn't it.
Second, I replaced the outdrive (I have a spare) - that wasn't it.
Last, I replaced the helm cable. Bingo!

Keep in mind the whole time I was changing things I could shift gears by hand using the rear shift bracket. I think as pressure was put on the helm cable it would expand the cable inside the casing causing it to bind.

BTW - the boat is a 1990 model.

YES, That should work, disconnect the helm cable and see how it shifts then. THanks fo rthe tips, The detent spring and plunger could be a problem too.
