tabs at top speed?seems ness on 29 fountain
Just getting my old '90/29' Fever with 454 mags running and from 70 -74 it seems to wiggle its azz (a little scary).Ran again with one click down on tabs and it did fine with even more trim. Didn't seem to loose speed. No real question then what I need to do but curious if this is normal and is it possible in smooth water to lose control from a slippery azz

internal steering, but it doesn't seem to be the prob,,more like its sliding around than steering poorly. Props spin outward(starboard goes clockwise in forward when standing behind ). Drives are aliegned well. Should I trim until RPM climbs a little? This boat porposes very easy when not at full speed. I am trimming to #5 position with #1 being all the way in and 7 the top off my scale. Not seeing any rise in RPM yet.25" 3 blade old mirages. 5000R's = 74mph. I have some Hydro 4blades but they are 29" and haven't tried them yet,I figure way big until the Prochargers are installed. Also have those Skeg Gaurds and they are a little banged up,may remove and retry without them(might pick up a mph ;o ).

Re: tabs at top speed?seems ness on 29 fountain
I have an antique 88 (29.5' with 2.5' swim platform) with internal steering, I noticed a "looseness" when about about 40 MPH that when I turn the steering wheel, the boat starts the turn and then starts to turn much sharper than the steering input I gave it. Had someone move the drives back and forth while on the hoist while I looked inside at all the "linkage" and it was horrible, the drives could swing back and forth at least 30 degrees just by using up all the "slack" the the linkage and cable system. I am now in the process of having a full hydraulic system installed. Funny that it took 40MPH plus to "showup" as speeds below that did not seem to show any large "handling issues". (my props rotate out also). Triple checked all the gimbal pivot bearings and pins and have no play or looseness side to side or top to bottom. All play in the system is internal linkage related.

Besides getting external steering, You might try to Toe-in the drives a bit. Like a 1/4 inch difference between the leading edge and the prop shafts.
I believe external steering is a must once you get beyond 70mph.
