Here's the set up;
502 running a circulating pump and factory T-stat housing with CMI headers using the lower individual tubes for exhaust water and the fittings on the elbows plugged.
Do I need to use the bypass hose connected from the the water pump to the intake?

It allows the water to circulate while the t-stat is closed. This causes the heat off of the heads and block to reach the t-stat before the heads and block to get to hot. I have the same setup WITH the bypass hose. Without it I would think it would take the t-stat a lot longer to realize it's warm.
