The shift assist module has gone bad on my kids 5.0 OMC Cobra setup. I have a part being sent to the Marina at the lake we will be at on Friday. The shift assist module kills 4 cylinders to aid with the gears engaging and disengaging while passing from neutral to gear and back. They only need to get off the trailer and to the campsite until I can fetch the part from the Marina. I would like to bypass the neutral safety switch so they do not damage the gears or cable on this short journey.
Anyone know which lead to clip on a 1990 OMC Cobra 5.0 setup?
Leaving in the morning so if you know don't ponder on it too long.

are you talking about the shift interrupt switch??? Thats mounted on the left hand side of the engine (looking at the front) where the shift cables attach to. You will see a small micro switch there that gets activated when someone shifts in/out of gear. you will probably only need to unhook one wire from it to dissable it.
Now if you are actually looking for the neutral saftey switch so you can start the boat in gear.......i have no idea where on the motor that would be but you should be able to find it at the shifter.....just a pair of wires that need to be put together to bypass it.

You should be able to disable the shift assist module by just unpluging the black connector on the wire coming out of the module. That's what I did when I was doing some testing. If you want to bypass the neutral safety switch, that's in the control box. Be careful, and don't damage your drive!
