Default Pressure testing outdrive - how much pressure?

Figured out a way to hook a small pump with a gauge to my outdrive. But, I don't remember what the procedure is for testing it. I thought it was like 14 lbs and it shouldn't lose more than 10% in an hour or something like that.

Does that sound right(or close)? If not does anyone know the proper procedure?

Thanks

formula31, I plan on it but unfortunately I don't have access to a vacuum gauge. I have to take it somewhere for that. Is there a way to make one?

Be careful on how much vacuum you try to pull. Pressure in the drive pushes the seals against the shafts, vacuum can pull air past. I never tried it to see at what point you could start to pull air past a seal, but just warning you. If anyone has tried it let me/us know what you find.

I usually put 10# pressure for 24 hrs and it usually holds that. I haven't done the vacuum, not sure when you would see a vacuum with the reservoir bottle having a valve on it.. ??

Put 14 lbs in and it held overnight. Spun the props and cranked the engine over a few times so I guess it's okay. Really wish I had access to a vacuum tester. Closest one is 45 miles away.

Good point on the check valve in the bottle. Maybe you are suppose to onhook the bottle and plug the hose off?

Can you use either the vent or the drain/fill when doing pressure and vacuum tests?

Who was the moron that made three trips to the Merc dealer for a seal kit? On the third trip they asked why so many seals were needed and the guy said it is still leaking. How much pressure? "Just like you said on the phone, 215 or so but it even leaks at 125 because thats all my compressor will put out" No, that is to 15 or so not 215!
