not getting rpms
Had New 454 Ho's 420 Hp Engines Installed In My 42" Wellcraft And Not Getting The Rpms I Should. Was Running 51 Gps Mph At 4800 Rpms On Old Motors. New Motors Running Only 3500 Rpms Top End. Could Fuel Pumps Be A Problem. Noticed Mechanic Installed 2 New Electric Fuel Pumps. What Should I Be Running For Gpm Pumps And Presure For 454 Ho's. Everything Is New Out Of The Crate Not Rebuilds

I had one engine do that last year. The ignition module was bad,not advancing the timing. You should have full advance around 32-3500rpm, I think.Sounds like timing. Put a timing light on it. I dont think fuel would limit rpm like you describe. Does it pop or mis or just run out of steam at 3500?

runs smooth just run out of steam no popping or missing. I'VE BEEN READING ALOT ABOUT ADVANCE TIMING ON OS BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHECK IT. THE ONLY THING I KNOW IS HOW TO SET UP REGULAR TIMING.

I had the same problem with a pair of 502"s The owner before had put two new electric pumps on and also fuel filters between the tank and pumps. I could only get 3800 out of them, moved the filters to between the pump and carbs, now no problem. It worked for me.
