Be careful not to break one of the ears, the ball joint press is perfect, but if the pin is locked in the top ear and you press the pin down the ear is going to try and bend until it hits the ring, there is usually about an 1/8 clearance. Heat helps big time, and tapping on the press while there is tension on it can shock it loose. Also is a good idea to wedge somthing between the top ear and the gimbal ring. Whatever you do, don't mushroom the pin. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it is moving in the top ear when it does start to move.

The top pin can also be a real pita to get out.
I hate doing that job!!

Inspect I used a bras drift, took out my grease fitting and drive the pin down from the top. Worked well for me. You have to be carefull when driving the pin out as there is a hole in the middle that the drift can get a little stuck in but you can just twist it out.

Oh man, thanks for reminding me Marc, I forgot to mention we put a socket in the gap between the ears to keep the top one from moving down. I guess as soon as you guys send me up my mystical adapter tool we ordered yesterday I will find out how hard the top pins are
I'm beginning to hate this job too
