i just wanted to give you props(not the king we put on out drives) i lurk a lot on the site, read a lot and call bs on a lot of stuff i read. you are one of the people who always has good ideas for people and steps up to tell it like it is. keep up the good work. i am also interested more in your motor setup. i think we have simmilar setups and would like to compare "real" numbers which i know i can do with you.

my setup is a follows

540 30 over so a 548
dart pro 1 335 cc cnc ported alum. heads with inconal exhaust valves and manely extreme duty intake valves
custom ground roller blower cam
roller rockers
JE blower pistons 8.25 to 1
msd dist locked at 30 deg.
m3 procharger with 4" pully making 9-10lbs at 5600
single nickerson built 750 blow through carb
500hp dart intake
cmi 500hp headers
msd soft touch rev limiter
bravo xz (1.5)
32 pitch bravo 1
imco duel ram fully hydr. steering
this setup is on a 3600lb 25' switzer v bottom.

Nice, what's the cam specs and do you run an intercooler, box or hat? What numbers does your boat run?

marty, yes it is a m3 procharger with intercooler, carb box. i will dig up the cam info i dont have it in front of me. the best the boat has run is 98.4 @5600 i have not had time to tweek anything to get into tripple dig but i think i can do it. my dyno sheet showed 945hp @5600 and 9 1/2lbs of boost.the highest torque was 923 lbs. when i ran the boat last at 98.4 i was only seeing about 8 1/2 lbs of boost so either the belt is slipping a little on top or i just cant build the same boost with the same pully on the dyno. i think if i can find that last lb of boost i might get into the very low tripple dig. who knows. i have been to bussy to really do anything with it. it would be nice to do it once.

502 procharger, sounds like a pretty mean motor. My shortblock is real similar,i used a merlin block, all arp studs, hrc ultimate duty rods & crank,14 qt offshore pan,ati balancer. On the advice of tyler crockett i reused my merlin 320 heads i had on my 502,they have bowl work, inconel valves etc. He said in his experience dynoing supercharged motors that i would not gain more than 10-15 hp on dyno and would give up torque when not under boost. My cam is a hyd roller, just over 600 lift,228/238 at .050. I am running the stock 502 efi intake & plenum, the boat had previously run 79-80 mph w/502 and procharger, stock merc hyd roller, merlin heads,28 pitch merc prop,5200 rpm's. Directly off the dyno w/new 540 it would only run 75 or so,same prop but at 4800-4900!! I called him up,he reccomended more boost on phone. The timing curve his computer program uses pulls 1 1/2 degrees timing out for each lb boost, the 4" pulley that made 8 psi or so on 502 only made around 6 on dyno,i had wanted to try more timing on dyno,we had base timing set around 30 deg so under boost it was more like 21-22 degrees. He said it wouldn't be reliable with more timing (he would rather see something reliable than to have you blow it up),i upped base timing 4 degrees more after talking to kip at cam motion (who had ground cam for crockett), the boat picked back up to 80 mph so 700hp? I then dropped down to a 3.85 inch dia 12 rib pulley (i did try 3.85 8 rib but it was IMPOSSIBLE to keep it from slipping),i also dropped fuel pressure from about 55 base to 48 psi, i now get 82-83 or so out of boat 1/2 tk gas,4 people w/30 pitch lab running 5400 +/- 100 725-750 hp?best of 85.1 w/3.70 pulley&boat empty. I know the small cam , heads & injectors are holding me back from anymore power BUT in Crocketts defense the boat will idle at 675 rpm's thru a no-wake zone for 1 1/2 hours w/o loading up or stalling and has been reliable.I also realize i'm past the safe limits of my hull (2000 baja 272) so now i'm just trying to enjoy the boat the way it is!How much cam are you running/exhaust system, idle rpm's,etc? Before the end of season i am going to measure pressure drop acrossed the intercooler and am also going to try running a 32 pitch prop w/3.70 pulley around 5200 ,Smitty

smitty here is a copy of my dyno sheet, maybe it will help you figure out where you are not getting the power you want when you compare it to your sheet. the fuel "b" side lead fell off on this pull so double the fuel numbers and the boost number all the way to the right is boost when you cut it in half. no idea why it was setup that way just the way the dyno comp was setup.

the motor idles beautiful trough no wake zones at about 750rpms in gear, i run a 32 bravo 1 so that is about perfect speed and rpm for no wake zones. i do not have my cam card in front of me but i will get it. do you have a 3.85 and a 3.70 12 rib pulley? i was going to order one or both to see if i can find that 1lb or 2lb i seem to be missing now that the motor is in the boat.
