The Konrad 540 can be purchased as a drive-only kit for an existing TRS package. This is a complete kit including the sterndrive and drive bellhousing that bolts right up to a Merc TRS transom assembly. Yes, you retain the transmission. No need to remove the transom assembly. This kit is called the Konrad PRS conversion and it retails for @9k
I decided to replace my tired old TRS transoms with Konrad's heavy duty transom assemblies. They are sweet looking units with much larger trim rams and heavy duty Gimbal rings. The 540 drive including a new transom assembly retails for @11k
As I've said many times before, I am just floored how rugged the Konrad drives are. We've logged 110 hard hrs on them with no failures at all. When I winterized, we pulled the top caps to inspect the gears. Everything looked like new.
These things are the real deal. The "Rolex" of sterndrives as far as I am concerned.

For more info, pick up the September issue of Family & Performance Boating magazine. There is a very well-written story of the conversion.
