MOBIL 1 OIL FILTER for 502 efi?
After reading all the good information on the Mobil 1 20W-50 V-twin oil, I have decided to give it a try. It is time to change the oil in my 1999 502 mag, and I want to do it right.
Can someone tell me which oil filter is best? I read that some of you used the Mobile 1 oil filter with the good results. Does anyone know which filter I need? I have tried my local autoparts stores with no luck for info on the Mobile 1 filter. Is the filter that important?

Thanks a ton Wildthing,
I did a search for a thread like that but didn't find anything. Strange!
I am curious about the late 90's 502 mags and the remote oil filter not having enough room. Do I need to worry about this on my 1999 model?

If there is not enough room because the filter will hit the manifold, you can always reverse the mounting location of the filter on the "L" bracket from the bottom to the top. it gives you the extra 2+ inches that you need.

A/C 454 (short) is equal to Mobil-1 M1-111 (shorter filter)
I was told that the Mercruiser 35-802885Q is for all V-8 engines but they make a "long" and a "short" version.
Now a longer filter is not a better filter according to Bob's. Heavier springs on a longer filter can even slow flow rates. Don't make assumptions. If you are going to extend drains you still must change the filter at the recommended oil change interval and additionally use a < 10 micron good flowing filter like a Mobil-1; Baldwin or Amsoil or equivalent.
The Mobil-1 is made by Champion Labs the same company that makes aircraft oil filters. Bob said they are not the same company that makes spark-plugs.

That I don't know I would think it does. That is the same fliter the Humm-V uses interestingly enough.
