I don't really see how it could go bad. I took one apart on my last boat thinking it was bad. It was just a straight piece of metal bridging contacts on each side. I believe I was quoted 70.00 for a new one. Might pull the rivets and look in it for that price.

Electronic supply houses sell micro switches... I had the ones on my Kiekhaufer trans levers go bad.. I found suitable replacements with rollers on the ends for about 4 bucks each.

It's far more likely your lower shift cable is bad. They get corroded and don't snap back fast enough so that the switch doesn't kill the engine.

cuda- all my cables are new TFXextremes. i fired up the motor and manually pulled up the shift bracket back on the riser and it did not cut the engine when the switch was actuated. i did the same with the other engine and it killed it. everything else seems to be in pretty good working order.

never thought of napa. i will try there and maybe some elec. supply places.

There is a replacement kit, PN 864363A1, includes a new shift bracket, new style switch and the shift assist spring thngy, same as on the newer drives. This will improve the shifting quality overall. Dave, the cable that Cuda is talking about is the one that connects the shift bracket to the drive.
