Omc Shifting
I have a 24' Baja with a 460 OMC King Cobra. I had posted a thread on here a few weeks ago saying that I was having problems with my shifting. Well, I pulled the boat out, replaced the transom shift cable and every part I could find on the exterior of the boat that would involve shifting. For a brief moment, I fixed it! I had it all adjusted correctly and working in forward and reverse. I pulled the trunion out for a brief second, and tried to place it back in, and now I can't get forward AND reverse... it's only one or the other. I went through the adjustment process again and can't get it working! Very frustrating! Does anyone have any tips or suggestions as to what else could have gone wrong? Anything is greatly appreciated. I am kicking myself for pulling that trunion!

check the remote control as well as your cable to the remote. there could be something wrong there. also make sure you are the right amount of travel from the cable.

Re: Omc Shifting
I can physically pull and push the transom cable to make the boat shift in and out of forward and reverse. I just can't seem to adjust it properly so that forward and reverse works... Any suggestions?

Re: Omc Shifting
My book says adjust it from the rear only with the drive off.
It says don't adjust at the trunion.
(It doesn't say what to do if you DO, however.)
Can you possibly start over, put the trunion back together, adjust it from the rear and see if you get it back?

to do the initial lower shift cable adjustment you need to remove the drive and install the bell crank alignment tool. it mounts to two of the drive studs and holds the arm in place. then make the appropriate adjustments at the engine.
the procedure is outlined in the omc service manual.

Re: Omc Shifting
yes i would. once that adjustment is done do not ever change that. there is a slot on the arm for that. it sounds like it could be in the remote cable or control.
