Although somewhat OT, this is related: Local marina hereabouts claims that the RV anti-freeze that many of us up here use in winterizing is only good for one year and will break down and freeze if you try to extend and store for more than one freezing season. Sounds like BS to me but if true, then I guess we should not use the last of that case of gallons that we bought two years ago. I personally think that this guy is just trying to sell more work and anti-freeze. What do you guys think? --- JP

Ritchie Compasses are completely rebuildable but when i checked into having mine refilled i found new ones on ebay for about $20 more than the refill cost so i would check there first but here is ritchie's web page http://www.ritchienavigation.com/index.html

here is the answer from there website
What type of fluid is in my Ritchie Magnetic Compass?
Ritchie uses Odorless Mineral Sprits on all Spherical Dome Compasses. Some old style Flat Top Compass (no longer manufactured) used an Isopropyl Alcohol and Water mix. This process was stopped in the 1960’s. If you have a Flat Top Compass it is recommended that you test the fluid to see if it is Odorless Mineral Sprits or Isopropyl Alcohol.
