1988 350MAG Rebuild
Hello, Engine Guru's
A friend of mine is starting to rebuild his 1988 Merc 350Mag. New brgs, rings, gskts, ect......
Are the ring's and bearings standard?
He is going to mic everything to be sure, I just thought you guys might know of any roadblocks.
I basically need to know if a summit rebuild kit will do the trick or merc threw in some obstacles to prevent this.
Thank You
Brian

First thing is for your friend to find a copy of Small-Block Chevy Marine Performance by Dennis Moore, HPBooks ISBN 1-5788-317-3.
In that book he will find a wealth of information.
A Merc 350 MAG is almost the same as a regular street 350. Some of the differences lie in the clearances for the main/rod bearings, piston to cylinder wall, and piston ring end gaps. The material that the intake and exhaust valves are made of is somewhat different too. Beyond that, it's all the same.
