Default power loss on my chevy 454 in my truck question

I just bought a 1993 chevy 1 ton with a 454. It was running rough when i bought it, took it home to do a tune up, found out the cap was cracked and it runs a drives smooth and good except for one part.

Under light acceleration, it has tons of torque and power, but when i step on it, it still moves good, but seems like it roors a lot and doesnt move as much as it should. it feels like it has more power when you accelerate less, and vice versa.

It has new rotor cap plugs and wires, I just drove it 2200 miles last week and ran fuel injector cleaner through it at every fill up.

Where should i start looking?

I would start by looking at the catalytic converter. That is the typical symptom when they start to get plugged up (my 90 f350 did the same thing). The other thing to check is fuel pressure.

My dad had a 1992 k2500 suburban w/ the same problem. Seems like they lean out when you give them the gas.

That's just how they were. The pre-vortec motors were slugs....... If I remember, edelbrock makes a kit to give them quite a bit more power....

Grab your cooling fan and make sure the fan clutch hasn't went bad(it will be stiff/solid locked up if its bad). Check cat convertor, fuel pressure and you could also pulll egr and check to make sure pintle valve is hung open causing your power drop. I had a 95 pre-vortec 454 truck,it ran terrible and got bad mileage. The banks kit makes it scream and picke up serious horse power.
