Re: Marinizing GM DuraMax Diesel
Bn-buy a new truck. You'd be time and money ahead.
Now, there are marine conversions out there for the Cummins 5.9 from the Dodge. You get an engine out of the junk yard for 5k and throw another grand or two at it for the kit. Mercruiser already makes the adapter for fitting the engine to the bravo. The problem is that this engine makes too much torque for the drive. A stock engine would be ok, but when you try to turn up the power, the torque values soar and will break the drive.

Re: Marinizing GM DuraMax Diesel
We are currently in development of new hard parts and a new marinzation and drive system for the new LLY duramax but I cannot discuss anything at this time other than to say we will be out with some more information after the first of the year. This is going to really be a great project and should revolutionize performance boating as we know it today. Stay Tuned!

Ray,
What the hell kind of torque converter you gonna put on it to save the drive?
(hey, I wonder if that would help any...)

Re: Marinizing GM DuraMax Diesel
BB chevy exhaust will not bolt up to a D- max engine, Marine Tech in Sarasota Fl www.marinetechn.com currently has plans of designing the exhaust and adapting a fresh water cooled turbo charger, Then the engine has to be put on the Dyno and remapped to get it to run in the Marine enviroment. finally the drive ratio has to be changed because the D-max only spins 2800 rpm. So if funding to complete the project is available we will have a 400hp to 600hp duramax to present to the marine industry some time in the future

Re: Marinizing GM DuraMax Diesel
This is a great thread. I have had thoughts of doing the same thing. With the power they are capable of, they'd be great in a boat. Closed cooling would be the obvious solution for all the aluminum in the Duramax. Keep us posted.

What has to be done to marinize?
Water jacketed cast iron exhaust manifolds bolted up to a water jacketed turbocharger and a water jacketed outlet elbow.
LARGE high volume raw water pump and accompanying pickup and plumbing for it.
HUGE heat exchanger that can deal with the waste heat of:
1 - the cooling system of the block
2 - the exhaust manifold(s)
3 - the turbocharger
4 - the intercooler/aftercooler
Marine style water separator filters.
Sacrificial anodes all over the place.
Marine spec solenoids and electricals.
Provisions for dipstick on either side.
