Marking bolt heads and nuts to check for movement
I am behind in the times. What is the best product for marking bolt heads and nuts. I would be like to visually see if they start coming loose.
Thanks

Marking bolt heads on torqued bolts would most likely be a wasted excersize. When bolts are torqued they are turned to pre-load or stretch the bolt. Generally when torqued bolts unload they tend to unstretch without turning by lengthening the bolt under load. By the time you saw real movement in the bolt it would be most likely a little late. If you have places on your boat or motor where bolts are loosening, try using specific types of locking washers or thread lockers. Always try and use bolts that have a high enough strength so that they can be torqued to high enough values to provide recommended clamping loads without weaknesses that could cause loosening or failure under load. The right part for the right job!

I once knew a General Motors Engineer that built himself a Manta mid-engine kit car. He painted every head of every chassis bolt with a bright yellow paint. He painted a line of this yellow paint on the top & side of the hex head of the bolt & an adjacent line on the surface next to the head of the bolt. Ed
