Default raise x dimension????

ok stupid question, read of alot of people talking of raiseing the x dimension on there boat. how is this done? wouldnt there be alot of extra holes in the back of the boat? some say that it is cheap mph on some older boats, new drives or adjustable extension boxes or both doesnt seem cheap though?
i want a 1.5" to match what the new 36 outlaw's are rigged now. do i hack saw of the back end and add some bondo?
thanks

Easiest way is to install an IMCO shorty lower unit with Max Machine inards. They come in 1,2 or 3" shorties for the bravo.

you never know till you try it. the two inch shorties are the way to go it is probably too high but you can space them down with spacers so you are better off to start high thats how we rigged the race boat then we test with different spacers

Why Do You Think That Is Too High? If Baja Raised The X 1.5 Inches Already
And I Think The X Is Still To Low!!!!!!!!

As long as you are running a Bravo all the above comments are good ones. Is your drive a Bravo? Otherwise we need more info. --- JP

ok you are right I just popped off about the being too high maybe it could be higher yet?
but going up 2 inches is alot ( we change it 1/4" at a time) and see big differences, you must be prepared to do alot of testing and should but at least 1/2 " spacers to start , with the higher x you may need to try props with more blades than you are currently running , as you lift the drive the slippage will go through the roof you can go to 5 or 6 blades and bring it back in line also your handling will dimminish( the boat will feel looser) , as in most things there are tradeoffs handling vs speed , that aside if you are carefull testing as you raise the x you will see a speed increase till a point than you will lift it 1/4" and gain rpm but no more speed than go back down 1/4 and you are there also somewhere in there you will not be able to turn( maybe in a pleasure boat you can tolerate more of that since you can just slow down ie. you don't have to push the boat that hard in a turn) just as you start down this road remember for each setting of the drive you should try different props, try switching the rotation of drives in or out, and remember to keep the boat weight the same so you don't get false results
hope this helps
