I have been going with Amsoils recommended 15,000 miles with a filter change every 5000. That's in a 2002 PSD.

2003 6.0 PSD Shell Rotella 15-40 changed every 3000 miles. All I do is towing with this truck.

O4 6.0 Powerstroke Mobil Delvac @5K. I would use this or Rettella I just don't see spending the extra on the synthetic for low performance or should I say low RPM application.

Troutly,
Have you tried starting yours yet in this single digit weather without plugging in?
I thought the engine was going to fall out on the driveway in little pieces of shrapnel.

I'm not Troutly, but I did that in Colorado lst spring when it was new. Remote start wasn't set for delay so it started immediatly and took 2 tries. Once it fired up, I thought it was going to start doing barrel rolls!! 1-2 minutes and the smoke cleared and she smoothed out.

I just had it reflashed (I held out as long as I could) and cold starts (Ok, Texas style cold starts) are much better!! We'll be in the 10-20* range this week though, so I may let her sit outside and see what happens in the AM.

Well I have a 2002 7.2 with over 78,000 most of which would be towing well over the GVWR (it has towed a trailer over 20,000lbs many a mile). I always use the Shell Rotella 15-40 at around 5000. I have a freind with an older 7.2 with almost 200,000 and that is all he has ever used. I use the syn, in the boat but stick with the Rotella in the truck.

What kind of truck? I thought GM's old one was a 6.9? maybe. DMax is 6.6 I think. Cummins is the smaller 5.9 I6 and last but not least, Ford 7.3 and 6.0 PSD's.

I know a lot of people running Rotella and only Rotella and live by it. I'm not going to change vis. but I may go to Rotella if nothing more than cost if I'm going to be going no longer than 5k miles.

In my 1996 Cummins I run Pennzoil LongLife 15W40 diesel oil. Change every 6k miles. I'm at 202,000 miles and it doesn't burn a drop of oil.

I patterned my oil change interval after the guy that ran his 1996 Cummins to 1.2 million miles. (I think he's still running it...) He changed at 10k miles, and used Rotella 15W40. I figured that 6k was a good compromise.

I use Rotella 15/40 in my 2002 PSD, 65k with no problems.
