Re: Need Speed
Where are your RPM's? Typically a blue-printed prop will help with 1-3 MPH...anything more than that would be a huge bonus. You might want to also have someone take a look at your hull to see if it has hook in it....take out the hook and you might gain 1-5 MPH as well. Of course, if your boat is already at it's maximum potential....you might not gain anything from either of these. I would say that these two options would typically be best for your application. With the Hammer I would look at how the weight is distributed in the boat...is there any you can get rid of or move around?
Only other thing I can think of is to get inside of the engine....if yours is 7.4MPI, you are somewhat limited on upgrades. If carbed, you might be able to gain some with a different cam and/or combination with head modifications.
Lots of history with upgrades...maybe do a search for "7.4 upgrades" and see what you find???
Let us know more about your boat and we'll see if we can help

Re: Need Speed
Your options are limited with that motor. The internals in that 7.4 MPI are cast. It is just not a good baseline to start modifying. Your better off starting fresh with something else.

I want to say they are less than two grand, but I'm not positive. As far as the install with external steering, maybe someone with some experience will chime in. But the couple of folks I've talked to that have them swear by them.

Re: Need Speed
Look for a used one. Normally around $500. I bought one and put it on a baja 260, no help on top speed at all. The boat did handle better thought. Make sure you talk to someone that has tried it on your exact hull, especially if you buy new. At the used price you will always get your money back.
