Default New Fountain owner, need suggestions on setting up boat lift

Hey there, I'm new here to OSO and so I thought I'd start with a newbie question. Just bought a new 29' Fountain Fever and I know I need to do some modifications to my existing 10 year old boat lift. My last boat did not have a stepped hull and was slightly shorter. I called Fountain, who says a lift mechanic needs to contact them for blueprints in order to set the lift up correctly. I'd like to be as careful as possible with this boat, and want to set the lift up correctly, but is this really necessary. Should a respectable lift company be able to set up my lift to hold the boat correctly without contacting Fountain? The boat itself is accessable on a trailer at the lift's location. Thanks for any suggestions/experiences.

Rick

I just bought a used Formula and called them for bottom specs of the 1998 model I bought. 15 minutes later I got a fax with the dimensions of the bottom/ distance from the steps/ center of gravity/ etc. Your lift should be altered to account for all these things, but Fountain could have jsut as easily sent the info to you. Call them back and ask for the info. Then you'll have it for whicheverlift co. you use.
PS I would probably cut new bunk boards myself and replace them on the lift.

any qualified lift company can place your bunks correctly for your step bottom, or you probably can do it yourself.... if you trailer is setup correctly, you can just use those measurements and make your lift bunks match...... make sure no bunk spans the step and the hull is fully supported to the transom and you should be fine...

I just measured the depth of the step itself and added that amount to the rear of the lift bunks. Nuttin to it.

Rick use your trailer bunks as a pattern for your bunk setup on your lift.
