I'm on vacation... but it should be by Tuesday.
The dyno is pretty busy these days, tough to get some time on it.

In a nutshell, bore-notching is grinding away the cylinder material that hangs out past the head gasket in the areas near the valves. Lay the headgasket on the block and notice the oval appearance of the gasket hole and the metal that can be removed from the bore, effectively unshrouding the airflow path into the cylinder.
I'll admit that it can be done cheap enough to be worth the effort.
Dave,

I bore notched a motor on Earharts dyno. (Not somthing I would recommend doing on an assembled motor). We made a pull on the motor, yanked the heads bore notched the block and made another pull. All within about a three hour period. Nothing else was changed. The results were a 30 hp gain.

Look at the block when you remove the head of a 454 and you will clearly see the dark areas where the gasket is scalloped out. Please tell us why it doesent work.

Alright guys... I'm back from vacation and the engine has been dynoed. I am very happy with the results.
Here is the dyno sheet.

Vary Impressive!
Max HP @ 6000rpm; Is that were you will prop the boat?
If so, I would start with a 24p Bravo I...
Good Luck with Her Storm!!!

Pat, we'll probably prop it for 5800rpm.
I'm happy about the torque! 550+.
