Merc 525 "Safe Mode"
A couple weeks ago while running my 36 Nortech w/ 525's i couldnt get above 4000 RPM's. It went in for service, and i was told that a "Safe Mode" has been triggered. The codes were cleared, but when i went out again, the same thing happened. What could be triggering this code? Could anything else be limiting the engine RPM's?
I made sure the gear shifter was all the way foward, if its back a bit it can still be in gear but the computer may think its in N, and limit the rpms.
Any help/ideas will be great
Thanks

Re: Merc 525 "Safe Mode"
When the PCM555 limits the motor to 80% power, it could be a sea water pressure sensor, sea water temp. sensor or coolant sensor. The PCM sees that the engine is not overheating or running w/ low oil pressure by going through a systems check. Then decides to limit power according to what it finds, anywhere from 10%-90% power available.Sounds like its seeing a sensor out of range and the other sensor aren't backing it up.

marinetrans is correct, it could be one of the sensors. However, you should get an audio alarm if that were the case.
I asked about the smartcraft display thinking that you could verify the in gear/neutral status on the display. Sounds like you have had issues with that before.

Plugged the computer in today and there were no codes this time. The motors have 61 hrs on them and are goin in to be tuned later this week. Hopefully that shoudl take care of everything. When i brought the tabs up all the way i got 4700 RPM's. Still not as high as they should be turning though.
