Default Header Gaskets???

What kind are the best to use for tubular headers??? I'm going to put a new starter on my port engine this weekend and the easiest way for me to do it is to remove the header. It locked up on me one time last june and never has done it again, but I bought a new one, so I'm just going to replace it for piece of mind.

Thanks,
Craig

Cool Re: Header Gaskets???

The best header gaskets for the money are the new GM factory MLS type stainless steel gaskets that come on any 1996 and new GM big block. You can buy them at any GM dealer and I believe they sell retail for about $25.00 per set. They are reusable, they dont rust and they do an awesome job sealing.
We use them on a lot of marine BB and we love them.

mr gasket copper gaskets rule, they also hold the torque of the header bolt and rarely loosen.

I was talking about this with Craig at lunch today, what about using the aluminum deadsoft gaskets in marine apps? I have used them many times and love them. Can they be used in Marine?...Rob

CMI has a new multilayer gasket that we've had great luck with.

I can remember about 20 years ago when I had a '71 Chevelle with some junk headers on it, I used to permatex two gaskets together so they wouldn't leak.

I should have been more clear with my original question...Do I need to use Marine gaskets with the tubular headers or will just regular gaskets do the trick??
