Default Blackhawk drives

I was wondering if anyone has any reason I should not purchase a 1996 Scarab P-29 with the 350mag and Blackhawk drives. I really don't want to find out that they are troublesome. HELP.

There are no major reliability problems with them and on the right setup they run great. As of right now the parts or available for them but as with all dicontinued products that may change sometime in the future.

Was the boat originally set-up with the blackhawks?

What ratio?

What props?

How many hours on the blackhawks?

What are the s/n's?

P-29's were setup from the factory for the BH. If you are ham fisted with the throttle you'll bust them up. If you baby the throttles when it matters, they will live. Be sure to test drive the boat because the do have some quirks that will take some getting used to.

Is this boat red and yellow?

I doubt if you will hurt them with the small blocks, but depending on the year an updating to the new style upper gears would not hurt.

P-29 only came with Red/Yellow, 350 Mags and the BH drives. Shoot a PM to "Lapse of Reason" here on OSO. He had one for a few season, and I almost bought it from the dealer where he traded it. I ended up buying a 26' Sonic, as I thought it had more to offer. I was very satisfied with my choice.

Are Blackhawks a direct replacement for a Bravo drives? Will all the same hyd steering components work on them.

I am told that on a 29 Scarab the BH drives are faster.... I have Bravo's

They are a good 10mph faster. They bolt right on to the bravo gimble, but you need to watch your x-dim. The blackhawk is some 7" shorter! No, the hydraulic steering won't bolt up. You will need to custom fabricate a steering bracket. There were 3 different version of the blackhawk back cap made. A wing plate that fits one bh won't necessarily fit another. Imco still offers a wing plate for the BH. It's like $700 and isn't compatable with their other steering systems. Plan on custom making the plate. It'll be much less of a headache.
