Gen 6 lifters and pushrods?
Hi guys, I am trying to nail the last details on my build. Mild 502
I am using the 731 cam and Harland Sharp rockers with 929 springs.
Lift is .587 and .610
Some folks say the stock lifters are O.K. to use and others say it will not work.
So whats the scoop?
And if they will not work what is the best lifter to use?
Also what is the proceedure to measure and who builds pushrods?

P.S lots of new snow last couple of days (22 inches) so sleddin is gonna rock this weekend!

I believe the stock roller lifters are good to .55 something, the retainers are the issue they wont allow any more lift than that. as to wich lifters and pushrods to go back with that would be better answered by one of the engine builders on this forum.

I agree with the Isky lifters. If you want a ton of information on them, just do a search on this forum for Isky or Morel lifters. There was a thread here not long ago discussing these lifters.
If you are running that cam, I would suggest you upgrade your spring retainers and locks. While you can get away with steel retainers, most would prefer Titanium retainers with 10* locks. With either retainer, the 10* locks are the way to go.

Stock GM lifters seem to work just fine from Mercury in Gen 6 500EFI motors. Stock cam is 230/236 @.050 .598"/.610" lift.
Stock pushrods are 7.55"/8.55"
If you go with the retrofit lifters and want crane pushrods the part# is 13628.
You can get the GM lifters from Scroggin Dickey....or if you want to get hosed, from your local GM dealer.
Crane likes selling lifters... In all seriousness, I think if you go over .610" lift you probably need the taller lifters.

if you need lifters, ihave brand new ones!! with spiders and dogbones, also have the zz502 cam to go with it, all gen 6....and stock timing chain and gear/timingcover.....all NEW take offs.

ALL aftermarket hydralic roller lifters are the "tall" version...hence the need for shorter pushrods when they are used.
GM has a stout lifter. I've been told by several builders I trust and respect that you just can't turn more than about 5800 and expect it to live and .610" lift is about it.

Quite Frankly anyone that is telling you that the Stock GenVI lifters won't work has not had any experience with them!
I run a Comp Cam with .624 lift with no problems at all!!
Don't waste your money on anything else!!

I was just looking for a few opinions and I will stick with the GM parts if they are the correct parts.
I have upgraded to the 10 retainers and locks.
I went with longer valves to avoid seal interference and swithed to roller rockers. This is why I am questioning the pushrod length.
