Same here

I even know all the ones here and even grew up with some of them .Some I would not even let them change the antifreeze in my 70 VW bug

There at 75 and hour here.

Before I Bought a DDT myself .I had to pay the mechanic 60.00 hour for him to watch me use his. He could not even get it in the service mode.

Thought VW bug was air cooled? They charged 350 per hour to change my bugs anti-freeze and said it had special fiberglass mite protection.

Obviously you don't have a clue what it costs to operate a marina. Each one of my tech's COST between 30-40/hr before we start the clock.

Wages
Workers Comp
Health INsurance "participation"
General Shop Costs
Uniforms
Other (nextels, unbillable time, etc.)

I charge 85 and need to charge 100-110.

How about a few others ---

Business liability insurance $55,000/year
Property taxes $37,000
Mortgage $34,000/month (yes, a month)

make sense now? I can keep going.

I dont have a problem with the Hourly rate . I have a problem with the hours ... My shop ..(ex) repaired an engine and it bent a valve within 20 minutes of me picking the boat up .... They WANTED to start from zero ...I got the engine builder to replace the motor and the shop said it was normally 28 hours to pull the motor, replace the accessories, then reinstall ....So to do me a favor they did it for 14 hours . .... I think I got had .......

28 hours seems very high. We use a flat rate system. Give me detail on the work they did and I'll give you a nationwide flat rate avg.

Jasper allows 14 [email protected] ... and said they would only pay the Labor if they found something wrong with the old motor ...it had like 50 hours on it ...They didnt find anything and said it must have been overreved ...it wasnt ..So my guys said they would do it for 1/2 .. [email protected] or 1120.00 .... I think I got snooked ... to me 14-16 hours is plenty .... it is 311SR dual 454's but basically stock ...
