Default GPS Speed Accuracy

I've been getting a lot of inquires lately about GPS speeds and accuracy.

To help those who have an interest; I thought I would share the article located at the link below, which provides a very good explanation of the differences between what you see on the screen of your GPS for instant speed and Max speed and the way the GPS data is used to determine if a boat has "broken out".

I use the program, GPSActionReplay, to play back recorded GPS data of a particular race from different years, or different test sessions on the same body of water.

I think it would be great if everyone in a Class submitted their GPS data to a single location where it could be put together for a virtual replay of a race and posted on the Internet.

Check this out...it is a very good explanation of how GPS speed is determined.

Then check out the rest of the web site to get an idea of some of the ways we can use recorded GPS data in Offshore Racing.
