Ok, I have the urge to race again and since I have proven I lack common sense or brain power this is how I want to go about it.

Please I'm just looking for an overall without going to find rules and read everything - it a "strawman" now as they say - God I hate that phrase!!!!

If I understand it today the "P" classes are are like bracket races, you can't break out of your time/speed.

Is that correct?

If that is correct than I should be able to race a diesel boat, because it is a bracket not cubes or modifications?

I think the rules prohibit diesel but I will argue that again if we go further.

What are the "P" classes and what are their brackets?

Yes P class is bracket racing. As far as I know there is no rule banning diesels.

P6-up to 70 mph max

P5- 75

P4- 85

P3- 95

P2- 105

P1- 115

PX- 150

It would be very cool to see how competitive a diesel could be. The Hustler in P1 Europe is a diesel. What are you thinking of running?

Insert standard non racer, no-nothing bystander disclaimer here before my comments...

But, I know I'd read that acceleration is key to winning races in the P class format. I though I'd also heard that the diesel boats lack acceleration (based on the european races). Although cool, I wonder how competitive the package would be in this race format?

I have not raced P class but I did race F2 and SuperV. It seems to me if you can set up to run at a given speed and run it 100% of the race acceleration only matters at the start. It becomes more a finesse race with turns becoming more important then straight a way speed. Makes racing interesting and more driver demanding. In F2 the only way you had a chance of winning is if you never let off. Some things don't change.

You will need a larger boat if you go diesel. We did it in 2003 and 2004 with a 42' Fountain. In 2003 we ran in P4 and won, in 2004 we ran the same boat in P3 and won. We could out accelerate every boat in our class with a top speed in the high 80's. But you will need the larger boat for the weight of the diesel.
